Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 8 August 2026. These Terms form an agreement between you and BuyThis.ie and apply every time you use the platform.

1. About BuyThis.ie and eligibility

BuyThis.ie is an online classified advertising and messaging platform operating in Ireland. We provide the tools that let sellers advertise items and let buyers discover listings and contact sellers directly. Unless expressly stated, we do not own, inspect, sell or supply the items advertised by users.

To create an account you must be at least 18 years old and legally capable of entering into a binding agreement. You may hold one account unless we agree otherwise, and you must use the platform in compliance with applicable Irish and EU law. By creating an account or using the platform you accept these Terms.

2. Your account

You are responsible for providing accurate registration and profile information and for keeping it up to date. Keep your sign-in credentials confidential and do not share access with others.

You are responsible for all activity carried out through your account. If you believe your account has been accessed without your permission, contact us without delay through the Contact Us page.

3. Private sellers and business sellers

Every seller must accurately identify their seller status. You are a private seller if you sell mainly for personal, non-business reasons. You are a business seller (trader) if you sell in the course of a business, trade, craft or profession — including selling regularly or with the intention of making a profit.

Business sellers must provide and keep current the business information required by the platform, including trading name, business address, business email and phone number, and, where applicable, a company registration number and VAT number. Certain business details are shown publicly on listings and seller profiles so buyers know who they are dealing with.

Consumer protection rights that apply when buying from a trader — such as certain rights to information, cancellation or remedies — may not apply when buying from a private seller. Buyers should check the seller status shown on the listing before purchasing.

Misrepresenting your seller status is a breach of these Terms and may result in listings being removed or your account being restricted.

4. Listings

Listings must be genuine, accurate, lawful and placed in the appropriate category and location. You are responsible for the title, description, condition, price, photographs and all other information in your listing.

You must own the item or otherwise have the right to sell it, and you must be able to supply it as described. Photographs must show the actual item where reasonably possible. Listings may be reviewed before publication, and we may edit categorisation or decline to publish content that breaches these Terms.

5. Prohibited items and conduct

You may not list, offer or promote:

  • illegal goods or services, or goods that cannot lawfully be sold or supplied in Ireland;
  • counterfeit, replica, stolen or otherwise unlawfully obtained goods;
  • weapons, explosives, controlled drugs, hazardous substances, recalled or unsafe products, and other restricted items where you do not hold the required authorisation;
  • adult or age-restricted goods where these are not permitted on the platform;
  • personal data, credentials, or items that infringe another person’s rights.

You also may not:

  • post fraudulent, deceptive or misleading listings, prices or contact details;
  • operate scams, phishing attempts or off-platform payment tricks such as fake courier schemes;
  • harass, threaten, defame or abuse other users, or send spam or unsolicited advertising;
  • manipulate reviews, ratings, search results, featured placement or other platform features;
  • scrape, disrupt, reverse engineer or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the platform or other users’ accounts.

6. Transactions between buyers and sellers

BuyThis.ie provides listing, discovery and messaging tools. For items advertised by users, we are generally not the buyer or the seller and we are not a party to the contract concluded directly between a buyer and a seller.

Buyers and sellers are responsible for agreeing the price, payment method, delivery or collection arrangements, condition checks, receipts and any after-sale arrangements between themselves. We encourage users to follow the guidance on our Safety page, especially when meeting in person or paying for high-value items.

This section concerns transactions between users. BuyThis.ie does charge for, and accept payment for, its own optional platform services — see sections 7 to 9.

7. Featured Ads, Boosts and paid platform services

Sellers may purchase optional promotional services, such as Boosts and Featured Ads, that increase the visibility of a listing for a fixed period. These services are supplied by BuyThis.ie to the seller.

The price, currency and duration of each promotion are displayed before you confirm your purchase. Promotion is applied to the specific listing you select and starts only after payment has been confirmed by our payment provider; we do not activate promotional status based on a browser redirect or unconfirmed payment.

Promotional services increase visibility only. They do not guarantee views, enquiries, offers or a sale, and they do not exempt a listing from these Terms or from moderation. If a promoted listing is removed for breaching these Terms, the promotion may end without a refund.

8. Payments and Stripe

Payments for BuyThis.ie paid platform services are processed securely by Stripe using the payment methods Stripe makes available. When you pay, you are redirected to Stripe’s hosted checkout and your card or payment details are entered with, and handled by, Stripe.

BuyThis.ie receives confirmation of the payment result and limited transaction information such as the amount, currency, status and a payment reference; we do not receive or store your full card number. Stripe’s own terms and privacy notice apply to its processing of your payment.

Prices for paid services are shown in euro and include any applicable taxes unless stated otherwise on the purchase screen.

9. Cancellations and refunds for paid promotional services

If a payment fails, is cancelled or is not confirmed, no promotion is activated and no charge should be taken. If you were charged but the promotion did not start, contact us and we will investigate and, where the fault lies with us, refund the payment in full.

Because promotional services are digital services delivered immediately, a promotion that has already started and been displayed has, to that extent, been performed. Where a promotion has only partly run and you ask us to stop it, we will consider a fair pro-rata refund for the unused portion. We will also refund where a technical failure on our side meant the promotion did not run as described.

Refunds are made to the original payment method through Stripe. Nothing in this section removes or limits any mandatory rights you may have as a consumer under Irish or EU law, including any statutory cancellation or remedy rights that apply to you.

To request a refund or raise a payment issue, use the Contact Us page and include the listing and the payment date. Full details are in our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

10. Reviews and reputation

Reviews and ratings must relate to a genuine interaction with the seller and must be honest, relevant and free of abusive, discriminatory or unlawful content. Do not post personal data of others in a review.

You may not buy, sell, exchange or solicit reviews, review your own account through another account, or otherwise manipulate reputation. We may remove reviews that are fraudulent, abusive, manipulated or in breach of these Terms, and may act against the accounts involved.

11. Moderation and enforcement

We may review listings, content and reports, and may investigate suspected breaches of these Terms. Where we consider it reasonable and proportionate, we may edit categorisation, decline to publish, hide or remove listings, messages or reviews, limit features, or suspend or terminate accounts.

We also take reasonable measures against fraud, scams, abuse and illegal activity, including retaining relevant records and, where required or appropriate, reporting matters to the Garda Síochána or another competent authority.

12. Reporting illegal or problematic content

If you see a listing, user, message or review that you believe is illegal, fraudulent or in breach of these Terms, report it using the report option on the listing or through the Contact Us page.

Please include the listing or profile link and a short explanation. We review reports and take action where appropriate. Reports made in bad faith, or repeated abusive reporting, may themselves be treated as a breach of these Terms.

13. Intellectual property

You keep the rights you already hold in the photographs, text and other content you submit. By submitting content you grant BuyThis.ie a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt for formatting purposes, publish and display that content for the purpose of operating, securing and promoting the platform and your listings.

You must have the right to upload everything you submit and must not use images or text belonging to someone else without permission. The BuyThis.ie name, logo, design and software remain our property or that of our licensors. If you believe content on the platform infringes your rights, contact us.

14. Platform availability and changes

We work to keep BuyThis.ie available and reliable, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. Features may be added, changed, limited or withdrawn, and maintenance or technical issues may cause temporary unavailability. Where a change materially affects a paid service you have already bought, we will act reasonably, including by refunding the unused portion where appropriate.

15. Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under Irish or EU law, including your mandatory rights as a consumer.

Subject to that, BuyThis.ie is not responsible for the acts, omissions, listings, content or conduct of users, for the accuracy of user-supplied listing information, or for the quality, safety, legality or delivery of items advertised by users, and we do not accept liability for losses arising from transactions concluded directly between users. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or unforeseeable loss.

Where we are liable in connection with a paid platform service, our liability is limited, to the extent permitted by law, to the amount you paid for that service.

16. Suspension and termination

We may restrict, suspend or terminate access to an account or remove listings where we reasonably believe there has been a breach of these Terms or applicable law, where there is a risk of fraud, harm or abuse, or where we are required to do so. Where reasonable, we will tell you the reason and give you an opportunity to respond.

You may stop using the platform or ask us to close your account at any time. Closing an account does not affect obligations already incurred, and some records may be kept where we are legally required or permitted to retain them. If you believe a decision was wrong, contact us through the Contact Us page and we will review it.

17. Privacy

We handle personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with and the rights available to you under the GDPR and Irish data protection law. Please read it alongside these Terms.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the platform, our services or the law. The date at the top of this page shows when the current version took effect. Where a change is material, we will give reasonable notice — for example by notice in the app, on this page or by email — before it takes effect. Continuing to use BuyThis.ie after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms; if you do not accept them, you should stop using the platform and may close your account.

19. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of Ireland, and the courts of Ireland have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law of your country of residence, or of your right to bring proceedings in the courts of that country where applicable law gives you that right.

20. Contact

Questions about these Terms, a moderation decision or a payment can be sent through our Contact Us page. Please include any relevant listing links so we can help you quickly.
